Retractables
This 1964 1/2 Mustang Coupe was transformed into a retractable as part of a contract that Wilhelm Motor Works had with Shelby. This prototype was to be called the Shelby “GT350CR” (the CR is for convertible retractable). Before this vehicle was finished, Shelby pulled out of the project. WMW completed the car and called it the “CR350”. The original design from Ben Smith was changed to have more of a Shelby style. Foose was asked to do the design, but he had scheduling conflicts. Jon Wilhelm (who was the architect of the Continuation Shelby Mustang Project) completed the design with a top that looked more like a convertible top, and the deck lid was designed to have a spoiler reminiscent of the Shelby spoiler introduced on the 1967 Shelby GT500. This conversion kit is now available from WMW for 1964 1/2 though 1968 Mustangs.
